Canvas shoes play a key role in most wardrobes. Pairing them with an outfit is the easy part, however keeping them clean can be a little tricky at times.
Canvas is an extremely durable fabric made from hemp, and there’s no reason your latest canvas purchase shouldn’t last you for years to come. Learning how to care for your canvas will prolong the life of your shoes, and will keep them looking newer for longer.
#1 Protecting
First things first, protect your canvas shoes! Canvas is naturally absorbent and needs to be treated with a water repellent spray before wear. Our non-toxic fabric protector spray is suitable for use on canvas footwear (and most other shoes and clothing), and won’t alter the look, feel or smell of your shoes. A water-resistant spray is crucial for the longevity of your shoes, and will ensure those rainy walks to work don’t destroy your wardrobe. Bonus points: our fabric protector will also repel any permanent dirt or liquid stains.
#2 Cleaning
Like most things, a little TLC every now and then will go a long way. If your canvas shoes look like they could do with a little extra love, take a few moments to give them a new lease on life.
- Remove any excess dust or dirt
- Rinse the shoes with warm water
- Use a toothbrush and cleaning solution of your choice (either bicarb soda and water, or a mild, eco-friendly detergent) to gently scrub the shoes
- Rinse and remove excess water
- Stuff the shoes with paper towel to absorb excess moisture and allow to air dry
- Remember to toss the laces in with your next load of washing!

#3 Storage
